Chania: The magical town in Crete

One of the most popular  destinations in Greece  is Chania. Crete is famous for its beauty to the whole extent, however Chania and Rethymnon are the most beautiful tourist destinations. See some of the city's most important attractions.

The Egyptian Lighthouse dominates at the entrance of the Old Port with a height of 21 m. It is a creation of the Venetians, while the Egyptians took care of its reconstruction in 1830-40.

The Megalos Arsenali has built around 1600, it remains the most impressive of the harbors to the west of the Old Port and offers its space at the Mediterranean Architecture Center, which organizes major international events on architecture, as well as a number of remarkable cultural events such as exhibitions, workshops, concerts - and not only!

Gyali Jamsi is an exceptional example of the Islamic architecture of the Renaissance (second half of the 17th century), and nowadays hosts various cultural events. In the recent past, the Archaeological and Folklore Museum has been housed among others.

Neoria is vaulted buildings are among the most impressive monuments in the Old Port. Here the Venetians withdrew and maintained the warships of their fleet in the winter. Starting in the last years of the 15th century, they built 17 arsenals (as they are also called shipyards), of which seven are still preserved and one more west, the Great Arsenal. All of them make up a scenic setting that travels to other times!

Finally, much of the Old Town of Chania is built around the Venetian harbor, dating back to the 14th century. Here you will find many cinemas as well as sights such as the Archaeological Museum of Chania, which is housed in the former Monastery of Agios Frangiskos and has a collection of Minoan and Roman finds. Language and book lovers will particularly appreciate the Museum of Typography.
